Completely reviewed and restructured, the museum was reopened to the public on May 17th, 2006 to our great pleasure. Thanks to the makeover, the glass windows of former orangerie have reappeared and they make the museum even more lovely and full of natural light. The ‘MUST SEE’ is, of course, the series of Monet's water-lily paintings, known as the Nympheas. Before the reopening, his paintings were arranged on the ground floor, in a slightly dark room. But, now they are in a new gallery where the sunlight from the ceiling shines softly upon the paintings. Monet, known as ‘the painter of light’, must feel gratified. Most of the time, there is a line to enter, since the museum regulates the number of visitors because of its small capacity. But, once you are in, there is no crowd to disturb you. The museum has made a smart choice to accept the group visitors only in the morning. For individuals, on the other hand, it’s open from 12:30pm. Even though the queue can be long sometimes, the museum is still well worth the wait.
Principal artists and works: Monet ‘Nympheas’, ’Argenteuil’, Renoir ‘The Clown’, ‘Girls at the piano’, ‘Bather with Long Hair’, Modigliani ‘Portrait of Paul Guillaume’, Cezanne ‘Portrait of Mrs. Cezanne’, Picasso ‘The woman bather’, Laurencin ‘Mademoiselle Chanel’, Utrillo ‘La Maison Rose’, Rousseau ‘The Wedding’, Derain, Sisley, Matisse, Gauguin… etc.
