When you talk about sculpture, you think Rodin. The museum of this great artist of the 19th century is one of the ‘must see’ spots of the capital. The modern entrance, remodeled several years ago, and the residence of a wealthy man of the 18th century give you an interesting contrast. Other than Rodin’s masterpieces like ‘The Thinker’, ‘The Gates of Hell’, ‘Monument to the Burghers of Calais’ or ‘The Kiss’, you can also appreciate the works of the talented Camille Claudel, who used to be Rodin’s pupil and lover.
This museum not only shows you Rodin’s sculptural talent but also his talent as sketcher, painter and engraver, which makes him a complete artist. As he was also an art collector, you will find some van Gogh, Monet or Renoir, good surprise.
The garden, with a lot of sculptures, is very popular, as well. You can enter the garden only for just one euro per person without visiting the museum. On sunny days, many Parisians in the neighborhood come to read or to have some peace and quiet. (2007-06-30)
