Itineraires is a neo-bistro run by the young chef Sylvain Sendra, and opened in April of 2008. It’s located on Rue de Pontoise, which runs between Boulevard Saint Germain and the Seine River. Just look for the old candle shop Diptyque, turn at that corner, and you’ll find it in qiuet spot just down the road. I had the chance to meet Chef Sylvain while gathering information for the “Food for One in Paris” book. At that time he was the chef and owner of the small bistro “Le temps au temps” in the Bastille district. I remember thinking that, before long, he'd have a much bigger restaurant, and that his eyes seemed to sparkle as he spoke.

Itineraires is the shop of his dreams with it calm and chic, brown and beige-based interior design. Bright sunlight streams in through the big window, and the atmosphere makes for a place very easy to just walk right into. There’s even seating at the counter, so it really is a great place to eat by yourself. The food gives the impression that the chef’s abilities are increasing everyday.
The beef confit I was so soft that it fell apart at the touch of the fork, and it went really well with the red beet sauce. And the zucchini was a nice, bright yellow. The homemade potato puree (in the small picture on the left) had a soft, fluffy texture I’d never before experienced.
This would have been enough food on its own, but, of course, I wanted to try the dessert as well. The peach poele and handmade vanilla ice cream make for a curious match with the ginger biscuit lying on the plate with them. To put it simply, this is an address where you can enjoy some light French cuisine in a modern place.
