Guimauve

Even though I’ll try almost anything, I hadn’t yet sampled guimauve since arriving in Paris. I don't really like marshmallows, so I assumed I wouldn't like guimauve either. But the other day, while walking through the Saint Germain district, I was rooted to the spot upon seeing guimauve displayed in a show window. The light colours and sense of soft fluffiness enticed me to buy it without thinking.

Because it was my first taste, I ordered an assortment of flavours and my impression was... complicated! With the light meringue flavour and the incredible way it melted in my mouth, I would love say that guimauve is truly amazing - but the scent is a bit too strong and aromatic for my liking. My apologies to any guimauve fans! Of all the flavours, the raspberry guimauve was outstanding. As you bite into it, you’ll notice the creamy centre of fresh guimauve. In conclusion, the flavour is the best part. Maybe I’ll start branching into other varieties such as lemon, orange and mint. I think newcomers to guimauve will mostly enjoy the red fruit and milk flavours. By the way, a pack of 10 from Gerard Mulot is only €6. They’re light, cute, and are among the best souvenirs from Paris you’ll find.
