Ambassade d’Auvergne is best described as comfort food. Upon arriving, you feel as though you have entered a rustic hunting cabin. It’s the kind of food I’d like to eat after a long day of skiing, or shopping.
I ordered from the fixed price menu (28 Euros). I started with warm lentil salad. The lentils were flavored with mustard and bacon. It was delicious but I had to hold back because I knew I had more coming. The main course was the Duck breast with Aligot. The Aligot is the real treat at Ambassade d’Auvergne. It is mashed potatoes with garlic and regional Auvergne cheese, perfectly melty, gooey and stretchy. Just before he serves you, the waiter comes out with a pot of aligot and shows you just how stretchy it is! I finished off the meal with the Chocolate mousse. |

The owners, husband and wife, both come from Auvergne, a region in the middle of France. Their Paris restaurant has been open for some forty years and they still get 80 percent of their ingredients from Auvergne.
In a city of haute cuisine, radical tastes and high prices, it is a joy to come across a restaurant with kind service, a homey feel and reassuring food.
